St. Nicholas with the Child Jesus

St. Nicholas is famously known for his kindness and generosity towards the poor. In this piece, I've depicted St. Nicholas at play with the Christ Child. In virtually every legend of St. Nicholas, there is a story of a desolate man with three daughters, who, due to his lack of any sort of dowry for them, was on the verge of selling them into prostitution. St. Nicholas instead snuck in during the night and left a single gold bar for each of the three daughters respectively. In the artistic tradition, those three gold bars have curiously been turned into gold balls. Instead of a classic depiction of this scene, I wanted to show St. Nicholas in a tender moment with the Child Jesus, presenting these gifts to Him and playing with those same gold balls.
