St. Lucy 4x6

The original is a 4 x 6 dip pen drawing and calligraphy ink wash of St. Lucy. 

St. Lucy is the patroness of eyes and ocular issues--when the Romans threatened to pluck her eyes out for her faith, she willingly gave them up. The ancient legend says that when she was buried, the faithful saw that her eyes has mysteriously grown back. She is usually depicted holding her eyes on a platter, and in this piece I chose to draw St. Lucy with her eyes covered as well. The eyes being covered emphasizes the weight of the trial she undertook in order to gain her heavenly crown.
