The original is a sepia-toned 9 x 12 fountain pen piece. Sts. Benedict and Scholastica created the monastic system after the fall of Rome, and the Rule of St. Benedict practically defined the religious life for the 700 years until the founding of the Franciscans and the Dominicans. Monasteries in the so-called dark ages were central to the formation of cities and were the heart of liturgical life dor responsible for the survival of Western Europe during that time. I chose to depict them in a tender and intimate scene with the Blessed Virgin, who, in a sense, cradles the whole world in her arms.
Cardstock, 4 x 5.625 in.
Each card is digitally printed with a blank back, signed and numbered by the artist.
